Attacking is Difficult

Hola

Do you all play with the missions from the Flames of War rulebook or do you play scenarios?

We play from the rulebook and we (there are five of us with eight armies between us) find that if you are the attacker in missions it is very difficult to win? Do you find this or do you have great tactics with which to win? We normally play 750-1500 point games, most often 1,000 points.

We are using a special rule, the attacker may have an extra battery of 75mm artillery 'off table' to give the attacking player more chance of winning.

Please give your opinions.

Gracias.

If you are playing "veteran" lists like La Legión or Regulares is not difficult to win against Milicianos or even Ejército Regular. Maybe against Brigadistas you could find some "difficulties" as those lists have a lot of support options, even inside the plattons (more LMG support)

In SCW the support platoons like HMG or LMG teams rule over the battlefield: if you don't kill those teams is impossible to assault a position. Try to eliminate those supports (HMG, LMG, AT) using your own support options and all your FP 3+ weapons. Light artillery guns, for example 65/17, 75mm Schneiders or even AT options (45mm, 37mm) and mortars in direct fire are your best weapons against the enemy support. Once you have killed those teams you may be able to assault, using your veteran troops if you paly Nacionales or your republican hordes of milicianos, ejército popular or brigadistas platoons.

Sorry for my awful english, but this is my "SCW recipe" for a victory over that "escoria fascista"/"malditos rojos" XD

Gracias. We have tried these techniques. This can be a slow process if armies dig in and go gone to ground. Perhaps this is something specific to the way we play.

We have given a free light artillery barrage for attackers where missions have the 'prepared' positions rule.
